Aaren Vest
My name is Aaren Vest and I’m 29 years old. I was born in Washington DC on March 26 1994 and I was raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland.  Growing up I always wanted to be some sort of doctor that worked with children.  I went from wanting to be a dentist to a psychologist to a pediatrician and finally to a speech therapist. I found my calling when I had attended University of Maryland back in 2014. The reason why I picked Hearing and Speech Sciences is because it breaks down into two fields which is audiology and speech pathology. Since I was a child I was often teased about having a lisp. So in order for me to become a speech pathologist I would first have to receive speech therapy first. I want to treat children with speech impediments like myself.

I’m a junior here at University of Maryland College Park. My major is currently General Studies but coming this Fall my major will be Hearing and Speech Studies. I’m also in the United States Army Reserve where I am a 42A Human Resources Specialist. I’ve been in the Army for 3 years now and it is truly a love and hate relationship. I have gained extensive knowledge in the Human Resources field to the point where I’m in the federal government and learned how to operate many systems. My artifacts are a family tree (my hobby is genealogy), my infographic and finally technical instructions.  The family tree gives you all a glimpse of what I like to do as a hobby which is genealogy. This also demonstrates my researching skills which I apply to my job every day. The remaining two artifacts gives a preview of what I do in the Army and in the Human Resource field.
